The underground opal mine has been operating at 5 Rundle Mall since March 5, 1983.
Unique Opals was welcomed and opened by The Hon R.G.Payne M.P. Minister of Mines and Energy.
Unique Opals is one of Adelaide’s leading tourist attractions.
In 1983 the basement at 5 Rundle Mall was dug out by hand, using pick shovels and buckets.
In 2013 the directors, Tim Sheridan and Steven Miles added over $100,000 worth of rough opal into the walls. Along with the rough opal they also added an opalised dinosaur fossil (only one of eight ever found).
