Fancy an old style picnic with an urban twist?

Lindes Lane off Rundle Mall will be the perfect spot to enjoy an autumn picnic lunch from Tuesday 21 May when it is transformed into a lush urban paradise complete with a great crate table for two weeks.

With a choice of table-top fresh salad plants and herbs available to pick each day, thanks to the Productive Garden Company’s apple crate gardens, ottomans to relax on with the sound of wind-chimes in the air, what better place to enjoy your lunch?

What: Picnic Lane – Eat, Sit, Chat

Where: Lindes Lane (just off Rundle Mall)

Lunchtime Picnic Box Sessions: 21 May and 29 May from 12noon-2:30pm

Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood is a great believer in place making and he sees laneway activation as a practical way to encourage people into the city, and those working in the city out of their offices to enjoy some of the interesting places and spaces during their lunch breaks.

“People can take their lunch and head on over to Lindes Lane to relax and enjoy the great outdoors within the city centre,” said Stephen.

On the 21 and 29 of May, from 12 noon- 2.30pm lunch time picnic boxes, curated by Masterchef runner up Callum Hahn from Sprout Cooking, will be available for purchase at $10 a box.

Containing the freshest produce, selected from seasonal ingredients available at the Adelaide Central Market, two choices of gourmet lunch boxes will be on offer including a vegetarian option.

On weekdays throughout the fortnight city workers and visitors can bring their own lunches to enjoy with sprinklings of the fresh salad herbs available then eat amid the series of large landscape photographs that set the scene, courtesy of photo-artists Jeremy Gryst and Wayne Grivell.

A jar full of Splash rubber ducks will give diners the chance to guess the correct number and be in the running to win a hand blown water jug designed by local artists Eddie Ferguson.

The space is created with the help of Fascination Street who have embodied a country feel in the heart of the city where people can take time out of the hustle and bustle of the Mall to relax and enjoy lunch.

“We have designed a set of sculptures that incorporate materials that come directly from the Adelaide Hills region, and aim to reinforce our connection to the food we eat and where it comes from,” said Branco Jaric from Fascination Street.

The Splash Adelaide App which is available free for iPhone and Android devices allows users to easily find out about events like this and to sort and search by tags, for example, family events, markets, food, outdoor cinemas and be notified of events near them. It can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play Store by searching for “Splash Adelaide”.

Splash Adelaide is a joint campaign by the Adelaide City Council and State Government that aims to bring our city streets and laneways to life.
