Originally part of the South Australian Institute, the Museum moved to its current site in 1884. Over the years, there have been many additions to the original building to accommodate the rapidly growing collections.
Today the Museum is also home to the Australian Aboriginal Cultures Gallery, the world’s most comprehensive Aboriginal cultural exhibition.
